If you are lucky enough to visit the wonderful Puppenhaus Museum in Basel, Switzerland, there's a very special Teddy bear you need to meet. He is known simply as "specimen number 1766," but you'll instantly see that a mere number does not adequately capture this Teddy bear's shining personality. Manufactured in 1916, he is perhaps the epitome of Steiff Teddy bears from his period. Now Steiff has chosen to re-create this special Teddy bear as a world-wide limited edition. Steiff has captured all the charm and character that make the original so special. To make 17.5 inch Theo a mohair-worthy duplicate of his exceptional Teddy bear ancestor, Steiff sent the original bear from 1916 to Steiff Schulte, their fabric mill in Duisburg, to have artisans custom-make a material as close to the Puppenhaus Teddy bear as possible. Then their designers carefully measured every angle of the original to copy his proportions - from the tips of his ears to the bottoms of his feet. They captured his long snout, humped back and spectacular face perfectly. Finally, airbrush artists added finishing touches around his eyes and paw pads to give Theo an antique appearance.
