Effanbee®
is a 93-year-old company best known for its line of Patsy®
dolls. The first Patsy® doll was designed in
1928, and was one of the first dolls to have her own wardrobe
designed especially for her.. Patsy® was made of all composition
and her patent was hotly defended by Effanbee®, though
what was actually patented was a neck joint that allowed the
doll to pose and stand alone. She portrayed a three year old
girl with short bobbed red hair with a molded headband, painted
side glancing eyes, pouty mouth, and bent right arm. She wore
simple classic dresses closed with a safety pin. She had a
golden heart charm bracelet that fit tightly on her wrist
and a gold paper heart tag with her name. Patsy® was so
popular she soon had several sisters in sizes from 5 ¾
inches to 29 inches. Effanbee® today offers not only Patsy®
but the smaller Patsyette and Wee Patsy dolls.
In 2002
the Robert Tonner Doll Company, known for its industry-leading
high fashion dolls, acquired Effanbee, and has since introduced
the Brenda Starr line of fashion dolls.
Toni's
Collectibles carries a good selection of the various Patsy®
dolls, as well as Brenda Starr fashion dolls, from Effanbee®.
